Core Volunteers Recognised at Marble Hill Estate

Our team of core volunteers have been recognised at an event at Marble Hill Estate. Core volunteers are those who take on additional roles at our events (planting festivals, bird banding etc.), such as team leaders, plant sorting and preparation in the days leading up to each planting weekend of the annual Bio·R Planting Festival.

These wonderful, dedicated people are the first to arrive and the last to leave, with their leadership, patience, and skills critical to the success of our events.

This afternoon was a chance to thank them for their commitment and contribution over the years, celebrate our collective achievements, and share some updates on the plans for the next few years.

Not for the first time this year, the wonderful people at Marble Hill Estate offered their stunning venue for us, and kindly donated wine for the event.

If you’re interested in getting more involved with Bio·R next year and into the future, we will be looking to expand this team of core volunteers as we scale up to keep on target with our goals as set out in our recently launched 2023-2028 Bio·R Strategic Plan.

Roles include:

  • Team leader
  • Team leader assistant
  • Traffic and parking management
  • Registration desk assistant
  • Sorting tubestock and trays after planting
  • Preparation days (tube stock sorting, watering)
  • Watering

A highlight from the afternoon was a passing visit from an endangered Square-tailed Kite! There are only a handful of known breeding pairs in the Mt Lofty Ranges, so this was quite a treat.
